The Life Record
No Fixed Address
There was a time when home had an address.
Then it had wheels.
I called the rig Tabula Rasa — clean slate — which was probably asking quite a lot from thirty-five feet of plumbing, propane, diesel, wiring and things that rattled for reasons nobody could explain.
But the name wasn’t really about the RV.
It was permission.
To leave. To wander. To discover what remained when some of the fixed things didn’t.
These songs came from the road: campgrounds, breakdowns, backroads, coffee, solitude, strangers, laughter, old memories and horizons that kept refusing to stay where I left them.
They aren’t a travel itinerary.
They’re what the road sounded like while I was living it.
If home isn’t an address, where exactly am I going?
where exactly am I going?”No Fixed Address
Fourteen Songs · One Artline
No Fixed Address
Fourteen songs from the Tabula Rasa road: leaving the fixed things, discovering the comedy and consequence of a home on wheels, and finding that the road can change the meaning of home without ever supplying a final address.
They don’t form a canonical itinerary. They follow meaning: departure, autonomy, freedom, road-life absurdity, mishap, memory and the curiosity to see what waits beyond the next turn.
Leavin’ in My RV
Departure · Memory · Unknown
The chapter opens before the destination exists.
There is affection in the rearview, but the road is already asking a different question: what happens if I go and find out?
“I’m just chasing peace and what I don’t yet know.”
Read the Lyrics
My last stuff is stowed beneath the sink
Coffee’s on, and I need space to think
You’re still dreamin’ under cotton sheets
But the sky’s already callin’ me
Babe, I must be leavin’ on my RV tour
Don’t know when I’ll ever stop for sure
Oh, babe… I feel my spirit start to roam
I may be leavin’, but I'm not alone
Your yellow scarf's still hangin' on my chair
I drive and hear your echoes in the air
Rearview holds your smiling face
But forward’s where I search for peace and grace
Oh, babe, I must be leavin’ on the tour
The road is hummin’ soft, my heart is pure
I promise you I’ll write you in a song
I might be gone, but what we had wasn't wrong
This may be goodbye, and then, hello
I’m just chasing peace and what I don’t yet know
If I find myself out there. I’ll find my way back to you
Oh, Babe, I must be leavin’ on my RV tour
Don’t know when I’ll ever stop for sure
Remember, babe, I’ll carry you in sound
I may be gone, but we're together in this song
Solo Again Tabula Rasa
Autonomy · Identity · Clean Slate
The clean slate gets louder.
Less house. Less obligation. More room to discover whether being alone and being free might occasionally occupy the same campsite.
“I am who I am and I take back my name.”
Read the Lyrics
I got no house partner,
No plants, and no pets,
Nobody askin’,
"Whatchu think about that?"
Fridge full of cold ones,
Propane's gauge is full,
No “honey-do” lists—
And with that, I’m cool.
When things go wrong,
I don’t break a sweat,
I know where the wrench is,
Ain’t lost a bet yet.
I’m the king of my castle,
A twelve-foot wide slide,
Freedom’s my shotgun,
And she’s restin’ inside.
I got time on my hands,
And no need to play games.
I am who I am and I take back my name,
Thank God I’m solo again.
No ring, no chains,
My Crusader and the wind.
Hell yeah, I’m happy solo again. 🎶
No garden to weed,
No gutters to climb,
No “fix it” weekends
Eatin’ up my time.
No shovelin’ snow,
No pool to skim,
If it don’t fit my mobile house,
It ain't part of "And then".
Just me, my six-string, and an old Army hat,
With the tunes I write crankin’, and I’m down with that.
Ain’t got no mortgage,
Ain’t got no debt,
Parked by the lake
From sunrise to sunset.
The campfire’s burning,
I’m livin’ just right,
No porch light to leave on,
No curfew tonight.
I got time on my hands,
And no need to play games.
I am who I am and I take back my name,
Thank God I’m solo again.
No ring, no chains,
My Crusader and the wind.
Hell yeah, I’m happy solo again.
Yeah, I’m solo again…
With a half tank of diesel
And a whole lotta grin.
“Solo suits me just fine.”
No Residence Blues
Release · Mobility · No Fixed Address
Then the premise gets a name.
No residence. No fixed address. Home has stopped being a point on a map and started becoming something that can move.
“I got no residence, no fixed address.”
Read the Lyrics
I sold my house and I sold my shed,
Don’t need a ladder or a roof o’ my head.
No gutters to clean, no hedges to trim,
My mailbox is gone, and I’m feeling quite slim.
I got no residence, no fixed address,
Rolling down the highway in a state of undress.
No paint to peel, no shingles to mend,
I’m free as a breeze with no means to an end.
No pool to skim, and no grass to mow.
No snowblower’s broke in two feet of snow.
No septic to pump or filters that blow,
My home’s on wheels, and always ready to go!
I got no residence, no fixed address,
Rolling down the highway in a state of undress.
No paint to peel, no shingles to mend,
I’m free as a breeze with no means to an end.
“Well, they can keep their basements, and I’ll keep my keys…”
No weeds to pull, no mulch to spread,
No dustin’ off them guestroom beds.
Holiday lights? I don’t hang ‘em no more—
I’m parked by the beach with my feet off the floor.
I got no residence, no fixed address,
Rolling down the highway in a state of undress.
No paint to peel, no shingles to mend,
I’m free as a breeze with no means to an end.
No driveway cracks, no tools to sort,
No boxes to lift or garages to hoard.
Ain’t stockpiled wood since I sold my stove,
I burn diesel now—watch me roll!
I got no residence, no fixed address,
Rolling down the highway in a state of undress.
No paint to peel, no shingles to mend,
I’m free as a breeze with no means to an end.
Now I’m a rolling stone, no moss in my life,
No zip code to give, no trouble or strife.
And if you ask where I live, I’ll just grin—
"I'm everywhere, buddy… and nowhere again."
Nowhere to Hide, and That’s the Point
Presence · Honesty · Showing Up
Once the familiar structures disappear, there are fewer places to hide.
The road is not escape if it keeps introducing you to yourself. Someday begins looking suspiciously like today.
“Turns out someday looks a lot like today.”
Read the Lyrics
Left behind the picket fence dream
Packed my past in a roadside theme
Mirror cracked, but the view’s still clear
Got no map — but I’m finally here
Dusty shoes on a shining floor
Found my rhythm in a hardware store
Every town is a brand-new chance
Every glance is a second dance
Nowhere to hide — and that’s the point
No need to fake, no need to anoint
I’m showing up with all my scars
Parkin’ truth beneath the stars
Yeah, nowhere to hide — and that’s the point
Told myself I’d get it right “someday”
Turns out someday looks a lot like today
Campfire stories and motown drums
Burnin’ shame like marshmallow crumbs
She said, “You’re brave to ride alone”
I said, “I just made this rig my home”
Ghosts don’t chase when the wheels don’t stop
And peace is a vibe at the coffee shop
Now don’t you run from who you’ve been
That’s the beat that lets the healing begin
Crack the window — let the soul breeze in…
Nowhere to hide — and that’s the point
No need to shrink, no need to appoint
I’m showing up, not playing coy
Living loud, chasing joy
Yeah, nowhere to hide — and that’s the point
No mask, no lie…
Just you and the sky
No shame to anoint…
That’s the point… that’s the point…
Hold Freedom Up
Freedom · Choice · Declaration
Freedom stops being merely geographical.
It becomes something to carry deliberately — not a destination, but a choice about how to live while the road is still open.
“Freedom’s not a place — it’s a vow.”
Read the Lyrics
You left the maps in the glovebox dust
Took your past and said “enough’s enough”
From the wreckage rose your rebel heart
You lit the match and drove into the dark
Hold freedom up, don’t let it fall
Lift your voice when they build the wall
You don’t need a crown or a stage or a cup
Just fire in your chest — hold freedom up
Wind on your face, wheels in the storm
You were made for the road, not the norm
Every no was a step toward your yes
You wear your scars like a Sunday best
Hold freedom up, high as the sky
Don’t ask for wings — you were born to fly
They’ll try to break you, call your bluff
But your soul don’t bluff — hold freedom up
A life unlived is the only shame.
So burn the old script.
Drive the new name.
Hold… hold it up now
Freedom’s not a place — it’s a vow
Raise it loud, raise it rough
Live your truth — hold freedom up
Rolling Together
Wonder · Beginning Again · Road
Tabula Rasa becomes more than the name on the rig.
Every stop offers another clean page. Wonder gets a seat up front, and the road becomes something we are rolling with rather than conquering.
“Every place I park is home.”
Read the Lyrics
Imagine me and you, just new
Reset the page and start with skies so blue
I think about the road, a lot
And say goodbye to everything I’m not
If I should roam the world
Each stop a brand-new view
There’s no one else I'd rather be —
Than free and true
I can’t see me turnin’ back, forever
RV life, rollin’ together
Time and space, no ties to tether
Tabula Rasa, we’re rolling together
The world’s a song I’ve yet to write
Campfires glow and mountain stars at night
A thousand paths, one open mind
The past in the rearview — no rewind
If I explore the wild
With wonder as my guide
Each twist and turn will testify —
I’m still alive
I can’t see me losin’ hope, not ever
Roadside dreams, always clever
Clean slate soul, now and forever
Happy and healed… we’re rolling together
Meant to grow and meant to roam
Every place I park is home
“Begin again” in every mile
With Tabula Rasa, I find my smile
I can’t see me slowin’ down, no never
Joy’s my jam, storm or fair weather
Purpose is found in every feather
Tabula Rasa… we’re flying together
King of the Road (Tabula Rasa 2025 Remix)
Humor · Improvisation · Road Life
Now the philosophy gets a little duct tape on it.
The kingdom has flickering power, a warm fridge and a janky fuse. Somehow the sunsets remain free.
“Now gimme coffee… and the next horizon.”
Read the Lyrics
Ridin’ low… haulin’ high
No rent, no rules, just open sky
Power’s flickerin’, water tank’s low
Fridge runs warm but my spirit’s aglow
Slide-out’s stuck, mirror’s cracked
But I got free sunsets and a seat that leans back
King of the road, oh yeah, RV edition
My A-C growls and squeaks, but it's got ambition
I got songs and stories in the gas receipts
And off-road maps with dreams in the crease
I pull into parks where the gravel bites
Share campfire beans and satellite nights
Neighbors change, but the road stays true
I trade wifi tips like old-school blues
I don’t need a crown or a throne
Just a place to park and be in the zone
My kingdom rolls, my trailer sways
And I bless each bump that comes my way
King of the road with a duct-taped code
Livin’ loud in economy mode
I’m the wanderin’ soul with a janky fuse
And a playlist full of wanderlust blues
They ask, “Aren’t you tired of movin’?”
I say, “Tired’s just proof I’m alive.”
Now gimme coffee… and the next horizon.
Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My RV?
Breakdowns · Affection · Roadside Soul
A rolling home is still a home — even when the generator wheezes and the water pump complains.
Affection survives the breakdowns. Sometimes freedom arrives with a roadside-assistance number.
“You make me laugh, you make me cry,
But I’d rather break down than say goodbye.”
Read the Lyrics
I woke up this mornin’, feelin’ kinda stuck
Generator wheezin’, fridge lost its luck
You used to hum sweet when the moonlight fell
Now you hiccup, cough, and you sure don’t smell well
You roll me down highways, then leave me cold
One tire’s bald and the coffee’s old
But when the stars shine and the road gets tight
You’re my only home, my plug-in light
Is you is or is you ain’t my RV?
You break my plans, then you cradle me
You actin' strange, but you still my ride,
When the storm comes knockin’, you let me hide
Is you is or is you ain’t my beast?
Some days you rumble, some days you feast
I wanna cuss, but I still believe,
You’re the wild-eyed dream I ain’t gonna leave
Water pump moans like a ghost in the walls
Wi-Fi’s drunk and my mirror just falls
But you dance with me in the rearview heat
Singin’ vinyl prayers from a boondock seat
One day you’re heaven in a tin can shell
Next day I’m callin' roadside from hell
But damn, you glow when the firepit’s lit
Even with your quirks, I ain’t quittin’ it
Is you is or is you ain’t my RV?
Got me rollin’ deep in mystery
You make me laugh, you make me cry,
But I’d rather break down than say goodbye
You may be busted, rusted, wild,
But you carry this heart like a wayward child
So is you is or is you ain’t my fate?
You might be late—but you’re always great.
RV City
Roaming · Community · Possibility
The road develops its own neighborhood.
Campfires, changing neighbors, coyotes, Wi-Fi tips and unknown roads make a temporary city where not being lost can simply mean going slowly.
“Next stop? Wherever peace parks itself.”
Read the Lyrics
Two lanes for every rig,
I’m solo but I ride real big,
Diesel’s hummin’ like a freedom song,
Coffee’s strong and the road is long.
I got my slide-out wide, my WiFi tight,
Streaming oldies through the starlit night,
With a map on the dash and hope in my chest,
I’m chasin’ peace of mind and leavin’ the rest.
RV City, here I roam (woah-oh)
Where the tires kiss roads unknown.
Campfire glow, sunsets to show,
I’m not lost, just goin’ slow.
RV City, feelin’ free,
With my six string and a soul on leave.
Boondockin’ near a coyote’s howl,
Solar charge and a weathered towel,
Met a biker with a checkered past,
Said, “Keep on movin’ forward, never back.”
Propane’s full and my tank’s been drained,
Chasin’ sunsets with no complaints,
I’m not on vacation — I’m alive on tour,
With a life that whispers, “There’s always more.”
Some folks chase the dollar sign,
I chase stars and whispered pines.
Turn the page, set the tone —
My Tabula Rasa, is a rolling stone.
RV City, hearts unfold,
Tales from the road that can't be told.
Laughin’ loud with a ghostly breeze,
This old rig still aims to please.
RV City, I’m just me,
A wild old soul rollin’ free.
“Ain’t no surfboard on this ride — just a step stool, some leveling blocks, and a dream.”
“Next stop? Wherever peace parks itself.”
Born to Be Mild
Age · Pace · Frankly Spunk
Speed turns out not to be a requirement.
The road can still feel wild at a gentler pace. Mild, apparently, has possibilities.
“Mild’s the new wild — just so you know.”
Read the Lyrics
Got my cruise set low, not in a rush,
Waving at life, no need to push.
Elastic waistband, cooler full of tea,
Living my legend — just gently.
Used to burn rubber, now I just coast,
Downshiftin' dreams I love the most.
Got a blanket and a back brace too,
Chasin’ peace with a scenic view.
Used to howl, now I hum and grin,
Trading the bar fights for vitamin tin.
I ain’t dead — I just downshifted,
Still rockin’, just more gifted.
Hear that engine? It's a gentle purr,
Like my soul in a slow-speed stir.
Ain’t no shame in takin’ it slow,
Mild’s the new wild — just so you know.
Born to be mild, not wild,
Still got fire — just re-styled.
Wind in my beard, hands on the wheel,
Freedom’s a vibe you don’t gotta feel fast to feel.
Let the young ones chase the storm —
I’ll chase sunsets, soft and warm.
There’s power in the gentle lane,
I ride like peace runs in my veins.
Passed a biker with a look real bold,
He nodded like, “Damn, that dude’s gold.”
We both know the ride’s the prize,
No matter how fast the moment flies.
"I used to rage… now I simmer. Tastes better this way."
"Born to be mild, baby — and I’m just gettin’ started."
LET’S RIDE
Motion · Curiosity · Let’s Go
Fuel? Snacks? Tunes? No plan?
Good enough. By now the road needs less explanation. Curiosity has learned how to start the engine.
“Got no plan?
Even better—let’s ride!”
Read the Lyrics
Got fuel?
Let’s ride!
Got snacks?
Let’s ride!
Got tunes?
Let’s ride!
Got no plan?
Even better—let’s ride!
Wake up in a Wal-Mart lot,
Coffee brewing in a percolator pot.
Sun’s coming up and the road’s alive,
Every curve just dares me to drive.
Wi-Fi check, the map's in mind,
Freedom’s got no finish line.
Home’s got wheels, not picket signs—
My address is the yellow dotted line.
Let’s ride—roll out into the day!
Let’s ride—chase that sky our way!
From mountains high to oceans wide,
No desk, no boss, just countryside.
Come on now, let’s ride!
Got bugs on the grill and a soul that’s clean,
Living large in two-fifty-eight square feet.
Neighbors change with every view,
Campfire friends and a starlit crew.
No nine-to-five, just drive-to-thrive,
I’m fueled by joy and overdrive.
Life ain’t waiting and neither am I—
Got my rig, my groove, and a restless eye.
Let’s ride—let the open road decide!
Let’s ride—where the sun and stories hide!
From ghost towns quiet to cities loud,
I’m high on life and not too proud.
Shout it out—let’s ride!
Tired of traffic?
Break the lane.
Sick of meetings?
Unplug the chain.
Chasing peace?
Follow that sign—
Scenic detour to the bold design.
Let’s ride—no rearview regrets!
Let’s ride—ain’t hit the limits yet!
From the Bayou heat to Northern lights,
Every mile writes my rights.
One more time—
Let’s ride!!
Let’s ride… (yeah, yeah)
Let’s ride… (all night)
Let’s ride… (into the wild)
Let’s ride…
Somewhere along the road,
leaving stopped being the story.
Living became the story.
The road wasn’t taking me away anymore.
It was showing me what happened next.
Still on Track
Mishap · Resilience · Still Moving
Then the road earns some weight.
A shredded tire, exhaustion and unexpected help turn freedom from an idea into something tested on actual pavement.
“The road may break, but I still won’t look back.”
Read the Lyrics
Headed out of Danville, feelin’ brave and bold
With Wayne the seasoned hauler, a great big gentle soul
Crossed the mountains to West Virginia under star-lit skies
Between Hurricane and Nitro—where trouble starts to fly
The driver's side trailer tire gave out with a violent shred
And the trailer danced loose behind me while I thought, hell, I’m dead
Sleep-deprived and wired tight
Blankets warmed me through the night
But I’m still on track, come storm or more mishap
The road may break, but I still won’t look back
Singin’ songs to calm the fire
Truth and miles just reinforce my soul's desire
Local fella lent a steady hand
Said, “Three mishaps? So that’s your plan?”
But who keeps count when fate unrolls
A ragged path that tests your soul
Denver’s voice on a country road
Helps me carry this heavy load
Spring retreats as north we climb
Still chasing meaning, one mile at a time
But I’m still on track, come storm or more mishap
The road may break, but I still won’t look back
Singin’ songs to calm the fire
Truth and miles just reinforce my soul's desire
So if you find your spirit cracked
Just breathe deep… you’re still on track
No rhyme nor reason's just a song
That drives us all to carry on
Backroad Soul
Home · Memory · New Tracks
Home returns as a question.
The old roads still carry memories, but going home does not have to mean returning to the script. Sometimes you make new tracks.
“Sometimes, you make new tracks.”
Read the Lyrics
Sunrise breaks, coffee's strong,
Dusty boots have been gone too long
That ol' Jeep rattles, hummin’ low
On Ohio backroads, only dreamers know
Left some hearts and busted plans
In small towns where the jukebox stands
But every mile I drive alone
Feels more like I’m comin’ home
Take me home — but not the way they told me
To a place that don’t control me
Ohio’s passin' in the rearview glow
But I found peace on the exit roads I chose
Backroad soul, take me home
Ain’t no map for how I lived
I trade regrets for what I give
Nights by fires, strings and songs
Where wrong feels right, and right feels strong
I’m older now, but don’t you dare
Mistake these lines for disrepair
'Cause I’ve still got a tale or two
And gas enough to chase what's true
Take me home — not where the script had placed me
But somewhere wild enough to face me
Where the wind calls names I used to know
From so many years ago in Ohio
Backroad soul, take me home
They said country roads lead you back
But sometimes, you make new tracks
When the world expects I'd fade to gray
I just crank the volume and drive away
Take me home — to where the stories stir me
Past the past that used to blur me
Where I’m not lost, just ridin’ slow
On the dirt path that dares me to grow
Backroad soul… take me home
RVin’
Integration · Horizon · What Comes Next
The final song does not arrive at an answer.
The rig keeps moving, the map keeps changing, and the traveler has changed with it. The widening soul may be the destination — if there needs to be one.
“The road rewrites the map in me.”
Read the Lyrics
Backed it out from Danville town,
Slide-outs in, I’m highway-bound.
Fuel gauge low, but the coffee’s hot,
I got more dreams than parking spots.
A stickered fridge and a pantry thin,
But I got tales stackin’ up within.
Every mile adds another page —
The road is home, and I’m the sage.
Passed through Flint with a sideways grin,
Memories stirred like a tailwind spin.
Talked to a kid who fixed my lights,
Told me, “Keep rollin’ into the nights.”
Rain tapped out a rhythm on my vent,
Truth’s not in where, it’s how it’s spent.
This life ain’t rich in marble floors,
But it’s got soul and unlocked doors.
Boondocked out near a prairie line,
Crickets played and the stars aligned.
Heard coyotes preach in the distance deep,
While my conscience rocked itself to sleep.
No app can map this kinda peace,
Just the quiet hum of a life released.
Canada’s calling, and I'm near the gate,
With a passport grin and an open state.
I’ve seen the road turn sharp and dark,
Still I’ve lit it up with a pilot spark.
Rolling slow through a maple breeze,
Chasin' time, and inner ease.
Each border’s more than a dotted line,
It’s a shift in soul, a new design.
I may be old, but I ain't done —
RVin’ north into the sun.
RVin’…
What a long strange trip it’s still bein’.
Turnin’ dials, countin’ smiles,
Fixing leaks and drivin’ miles.
RVin’…
Rollin’ slow but feelin’ free,
The road rewrites the map in me.
Some folks need a house to know they’re whole,
I just need tires and a widening soul.
Freedom ain’t found behind a gate —
It’s in a sunset I didn’t plan to chase.
Downshift to climb, upshift to cruise,
Missed a turn, but I can’t lose.
This 35-footer ain’t just a ride,
It’s the proof I’m still alive inside.
"You don’t steer by where you’ve been… you steer by what you’re willing to believe is ahead."
"Next stop: wherever peace takes the wheel."
The Road Ahead
And Then…
I didn’t arrive.
That turned out to be the point.
There was another road.
Another campground.
Another person I hadn’t met.
Another story I hadn’t written.
Some things broke.
Some things worked better with duct tape.
So did I.
The address kept changing.
Curiosity didn’t.
The road ahead was still unknown.
Good.
Let’s ride.
